Campus Zones

A campus is organized here the way its regulators organize it: by zone. Each zone page lists the documents that reach it, what each requires, who inspects, and the records that show the requirement was met.

• Vivaria and Animal Facilities

  The zone with the most overlapping pest control documents on this reference: USDA standards for covered species, PHS Policy and the Guide for every vertebrate in PHS-supported work, and BMBL for animal biosafety levels.

• Laboratories and Insectaries

  BMBL lists an IPM program as a standard practice at BSL-1 and every level above; the NIH Guidelines make an insect and rodent program a funding condition.

• Dining and Concessions

  The zone whose inspection results several Utah local health departments publish: dining halls, retail outlets, catering, and stadium and arena concessions under the Food Code.

• Campus Food Manufacturing

  Conditional: some campus food operations may also, or instead, fall under FDA's plant standard or FSIS's pest management program.

• Campus Health Facilities

  University hospitals and clinics may answer to CMS, their accreditors, and state licensing, depending on the facility; see the companion Healthcare Pest Reference.

• Child Care and On-Campus Schools

  Child care centers, and K–12 charter schools housed on university campuses. Each charter school is a “school” under Utah's school IPM rule; how the rule applies in university-owned buildings is an open question.

• Student Housing

  Residence halls and student apartments: Utah's lodging rule excludes them by name, and no other pest-specific rule was found.

• Campus-Wide

  Enclosed workplaces under OSHA's vermin control standard (through Utah's State Plan; state-university coverage is open), public-facing buildings under Utah's public places rule where it applies, and R68-7 for whoever applies pesticides.
